Local government and school partnerships can be a significant key to the welfare of the wider community. This also allows for a more efficient distribution of community services and a more extensive use or development of public infrastructure, as experienced by PAUD Paulus Sisilia.

Building Strong Local Government and School Partnerships for Better Education Outcomes

At the end of November 2022, PAUD Paulus Sisilia received assistance from the local government in the form of a drilled well equipped with a water reservoir and a pipe. The community and the chief of Naimana Village worked together to drill wells and build water tank facilities to enhance sanitary standards in school. Whereas there was previously very limited access to water, these facilities have made it easier for schools and communities to obtain clean water and ensure it is constantly available.

Building Stronger Communities: The Benefits of Local Government & School PartnershipsThe local community was also excited as they were looking forward to the local government’s assistance in the form of a well for the village equipped with a water reservoir and a pipe. Now, PAUD Paulus Sisilia has a proper water tank. Children and school members also have access to clean water and basic toilet facilities.

Good hygiene practice is important in every stage of life, but good cleanliness habits start from early childhood. Children can learn better personal hygiene skills and also increase children’s self-confidence to be more independent.

Benefits of Local Government and School Partnerships

Partnerships between local government and schools can generate educational and economic benefits for schools, such as:

  • Improved access to state-of-the-art facilities, such as sports and the arts, allows students to experience new and creative environments.
  • Teachers can obtain access to expertise and diverse information sources
  • More positive perceptions and a greater sense of community.
  • Access to funding for new projects that may not usually be available to schools.
  • Financial savings by sharing large facilities’ operating and maintenance costs between schools and local government.
